BURSTING WITH HEALTH BENEFITS

It’s almost impossible to dissociate oranges from being synonymous to an abundance of vitamin C, but the fruit encompasses a wider breadth of health benefits: from preventing skin damage and constipation to controlling blood sugar levels and boosting eye health and general immunity. Its wide usage in traditional medicine across various countries is no surprise, but the orange fruits are also symbolically significant in many cultures. With early mentions in both Chinese literature dating back to 314 BC and Greek mythology, oranges were seen as symbols of status. Due to its evergreen tree’s ability to produce flowers, foliage and fruit simultaneously, oranges are still generally associated with fertility and love today. In Southeast Asian cultures, oranges are thought to symbolise happiness, good luck, and prosperity.

AN ALL ROUNDER FLAVOUR

Equipped with a distinct taste, oranges – the fruit and flavour – are refreshingly zesty with soothing, sweet notes that balance its citric nature. Juices aside, oranges are an essential component to the beverage community due to their versatile nature and usability. As a core ingredient, oranges impart a crisp, tangy edge that works well with a variety of additions: from other citrus fruits such as lemons and limes to herbal or woody flavours such as nuts and spices. As infusions, particularly with orange peels in coffee or tea-based drinks, they elevate the brewing notes and provide a tart aftertaste to cut through the drink’s intensity. All parts from pith to pulp are now used for a multitude of reasons, whether as fruit stock or blended into recipes. To add a boost to your beverages, try out these recipes and serve up some orange drinks with an oriental twist.
