UK taste tests
MONIN commissioned independent and impartial research with CGA, a trusted on-premise insight and research consultancy business. This research was conducted in July 2021 with the objective of evaluating consumers' & professionals’ perceptions of syrups across both coffee and cocktails. Core to this research was evaluating MONIN syrups against other branded syrups in the UK through blind taste tests.
Both consumers and trade professionals took part in blind hall tests using MONIN and four key competitor brands, tasting and rating either flavoured coffee or flavoured cocktails.



Consumer testing
THE CONSUMER METHODOLOGY INVOLVED;
- 102 consumers who regularly drink coffee and are at least open to trying syrups,
- Each consumer blind tasting two different flavours across five brands
- Brands tasted were MONIN, Sweetbird, Routin, Da Vinci and Tate & Lyle
- Flavours tasted: Vanilla, Hazelnut, Caramel, Gingerbread
Barista testing
THE BARISTA METHODOLOGY INVOLVED;
- 20 experienced baristas
- Each barista blind tasted 4 different flavours across 5 brands
- Brands tasted: MONIN, Sweetbird, Routin, Da Vinci and Tate & Lyle
- Flavours tasted: Vanilla, Hazelnut, Caramel, Gingerbread
Bartender testing
THE BARTENDER METHODOLOGY INVOLVED;
- 22 experienced bartenders
- Each bartender blind tasted four different flavours across five brands
- Brands tasted: MONIN, Routin, Teisseire, William Fox, Giffard
- Cocktails tasted: Banana Daiquiri, Pina Colada, Passionfruit Martini , Peach Bellini
