MONIN WATERMELON SYRUP

The Go-To Summer Fruit

“It is chief of this world’s luxuries, king by the grace of God over all the fruits on earth. When one has tasted it, he knows what the angels eat.” Wrote American author Mark Twain, famously known for his works such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. But would you believe that the high praise is directed at the watermelon, an almost unassuming looking fruit that hides the sweetest of wonders within its thick skin?

You can’t deny that it’s an idyllic scene to picture: biting into a cool watermelon under the shade after a day out spent under the sun. Between the freshening sweetness and the abundance of water you get out of the fruit, there’s no wonder that it’s the brand ambassador of fruits for summer.

Bursting with Benefits

Not only is it delicious and loved by all, there’s more to the melon than just its invigorating taste.

For people who find drinking plain water to be unexciting, having a watermelon is a perfect way to get your much-needed dose of water intake as the fruit itself is 92% water. At only 46 calories per cup, it’s a great snack if you’re up for something light and filling, or if you’re just looking to satisfy your sweet tooth!

The fruit is loaded with vitamins, from antioxidants like Vitamin C and lycopene that help lower inflammation, to Vitamin A, potassium and magnesium, just to name a few. There has been a study whereby athletes who consume either the fruit or juice of watermelon after their exercises will experience less muscle soreness and improved recovery time.

It should also be noted that watermelon rind, which oftentimes ends up being unused, can actually be eaten. It is a rich source of fibre, which helps with lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels, as well as helping with bowel movements.
